Forty Farms Installed on the Farm
An open invitation to visit the inaugural outdoor installation of Amy Bateman’s stunning Forty Farms exhibition in association with H&H at Low Sizergh Barn, near Kendal
Saturday 18th November will see the opening of the Lake District’s newest unmissable attraction, the inaugural outdoor installation of the Forty Farms Photographic Exhibition in Association with H&H. Open until April 2024, this unique free exhibition is installed along a two-mile farm and woodland walk at the award winning Low Sizergh Barn on the outskirts of Kendal.
All are welcome to attend the official opening at 11.00 am, which will be followed by a guided tour of the trail, with mulled wine and apple juice available.
The Forty Farms Photographic Exhibition in Association with H&H features the remarkable work of British Life Photographer of the Year, Amy Bateman, documenting her journey to record the stories and images of Forty Farms in Cumbria. The large format images displayed along the Low Sizergh Barn trail capture the dedication and passion of the farming families continuing the traditions of Herdwick sheep grazing in the Lake District uplands, or forging new futures for farming with cutting edge innovation in world class cheesemaking.
The Forty Farms Photographic Exhibition in Association with H&H, is free to visit and view.
Amy’s stories were brought together in a wonderful coffee table book, Forty Farms, published in 2022 and winner of the Lakeland Book of the Year. An organic dairy farm with an award-winning farm shop and café, Low Sizergh is itself one of the Forty Farms, and the outdoor exhibition gives a unique insight into farming in Cumbria, in a setting that carries visitors deep into the Lake District landscape at the heart of the Forty Farms journey.
Photographer Amy Bateman said: "I am thrilled to be working with H&H group to bring this exhibition alive at Low Sizergh. It’s been a dream to keep telling these farming stories to more people and this way we can reach a brand-new audience. I’m hoping to tour with this outdoor exhibition, now we have H&H as a partner that looks more likely."
Proudly supported by the H&H Group PLC, the Forty Farms Photographic Exhibition in Association with H&H, is also a moving visual record of farming and farmers adapting to a period of profound change: working with nature, following regenerative practices, producing high quality food whilst maintaining high animal welfare standards, and maintaining and improving our landscapes whilst being environmentally and economically sustainable.
Farmers are at the very heart of the Cumbrian and Lakeland landscapes, and it is their work which has moulded and forged these landscapes for generations. They provide so much, including food for our tables, accommodation for our visitors and, importantly, they provide care for the Cumbrian environment we all love. Some of the 40 farmers featured are our customers and it is a privilege to be able to highlight their work through this farm-based outdoor exhibition of Amy Bateman’s wonderful images.”
Forty Farms Photographic Exhibition in Association with H&H at Low Sizergh Barn, open daily until April 2024, 9am – 5.30pm, Café 9am – 5pm (last hot food 4.30pm), every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
