Grants & Schemes

Our advisors can provide professional advice with regard to all government Environmental Schemes, past and present, including Countryside Stewardship (CS), Higher Level (HLS) Environmental Stewardship, Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI), Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) and England Woodland Creation Offer (EWCO). Since 2005, we have helped over 900 farmers and landowners apply successfully for Stewardship agreements. With our own in-house ecologists, we are unique among land agents in being able to offer a complete service.

Countryside Stewardship Scheme

Countryside Stewardship is the Government’s flagship on-farm environmental and woodland scheme. Our comprehensive range of services includes:

  • Higher Tier and Mid Tier Countryside Stewardship applications
  • Applications for standalone capital grants – water capital, air quality and boundaries
  • Baseline Evaluation of Higher Tier Agreement (BEHTA) surveys
  • Woodland Management Plans – a pre-requisite for woodland options in CS
  • Applications for Woodland Creation and Woodland Tree Health Grants
  • Completing Annual Claim Forms
  • Making capital works claims
  • Advice on targeting, scoring and making a competitive CS application
Sustainable Farming Incentive

DEFRA have announced that the new & expanded  Sustainable Farming Incentive 2024 offer is coming out in the next few weeks. 

The Sustainable Farming Incentive pays farmers and land managers to take up or maintain sustainable farming and land management practices that protect and benefit the environment, support food production and improve productivity. 

The expanded SFI offer which was recently published will be available to farmers from the end of July and is open to new entrants for the first time. Initially comprising 102 actions, including over 20 new options to support more sustainable food production. 

The SFI actions in the expanded offer include:
The actions from the SFI 2023 offer.
New actions such as tillage farming and precision farming.
Actions previously offered under Countryside Stewardship Mid Tier to streamline the application process for farmers.

Farming in Protected Landscapes

This scheme provides grants for projects undertaken by farmers in National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Projects should aim to deliver one or more of the following:

  • Measures to combat or adapt to climate change
  • Improve biodiversity and habitat connectivity
  • Opportunities for public access or engagement
  • Enhance the quality and character of the landscape

We can advise on the likely success of a proposed project and help with the application process.

Environmental Stewardship

The Environmental Stewardship Scheme ran from 2005 to 2014 and is now closed to new entrants. H&H Land & Estates can provide ongoing practical advice on managing your HLS agreement, including:

  • Advice on making options work best within your farming system
  • Land transfers and amendments in relation to sales, purchases or change in tenancy
