Earn While You Learn

H&H Land & Estates , one of the North of England’s leading Chartered Surveyors and Land Agents, is offering the chance for an enthusiastic individual to become their latest Apprentice Rural Surveyor at their office in Durham City. Always committed to helping the next generation to progress their careers, we are offering a great opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of rural property and land management, whilst taking the apprentice surveyor pathway, run in association with Harper Adams University .

Opportunities to earn while you learn are becoming ever more popular, as many students leave university laden down with debt and with no guarantee of a job. This scheme offers the best of both worlds; access to a first class university and a first class firm, while all the time being paid and having tuition fees fully covered by the scheme.

The successful applicant will undertake a five year training programme, which includes a part time undergraduate degree (five years) and an RICS Assessment of Professional Competence training programme (two years) leading to becoming a fully qualiied Chartered Surveyor with an MRICS qualification. On the job training is provided to ensure all the required knowledge and experience is obtained throughout the apprenticeship to successfully qualify.

“We are particularly keen to support the next generation of surveyors entering the industry,” commented Robert Jauneika, Chartered Surveyor at H&H Land & Estates. “A company is only as good as the people within it, and we want to ensure that we continue to maintain and share our high standards of knowledge and professionalism. This apprenticeship scheme means that gaining a degree is more affordable and also gives invaluable hands-on experience. I would urge anyone interested in working in rural property and land management to seize the opportunity and apply. The phrase ‘no two days are ever the same’ is heard often in this profession, but I can honestly say that in this case it is absolutely true.”

H&H Land & Estates employed our first such apprentice earlier this year. Abigail Gate is working at our office in Carlisle and is thoroughly enjoying the role. “It is such a good firm to work for and everyone has been very helpful and supportive. The academic side is really interesting too and it will be great to meet other students when I go to Harper Adams, starting the Rural Enterprise and Land Management course in September. It is the ideal programme for me.”

The company regularly employs Harper Adams University students for work placements, many of whom return to work with them full time on completing their degrees.
