We are delighted to announce that renowned Harrison & Hetherington auctioneer David Holliday will conduct our specialist farm, land, and property sales as resident Auctioneer. This move further enhances our commitment to providing the highest levels of expert advice and support for all types of farm, land and property sale, including public auction, private treaty, and informal tender.

In Cumbria, we operate from offices in Borderway Carlisle, Penrith, and Staveley on the South Lakes providing a full range of land and property services.  With a team of qualified Chartered Surveyors and experienced rural property professionals, we are known for maximising value on behalf of clients, from small bare land parcels to multimillion-pound ring-fenced farms.

With the next property auction set for June, H&H Land & Estates is seeing increasing success under the hammer. Recent results include sales achieving over 40–50% above guide prices, underscoring the strength of selling by auction. However, private treaty remains the preferred route for many, particularly for larger farms and land acreages.

Both methods have their place. Private treaty is the preferred method for more complex properties. But where location is right and competition is expected, public auction continues to deliver outstanding results.

With falling interest rates and stabilising input costs, there is renewed interest from farmers seeking to invest. Land remains one of the most secure long-term assets. There’s a growing understanding of the value in land ownership, especially in generational farming businesses.
