Join our seminars at Agri Expo 2022!

Agri Expo is the UK’s largest autumn livestock showcase and the place where the farming community meet and compete. Hosted by Harrison & Hetherington at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, there is lots to celebrate throughout the day. This year, Agri Expo will take place on Friday 28th October 2022.

Due to the popularity of the seminars we hosted last year at Agri Expo 2021, we are delighted to be hosting two seminars at Agri Expo again this year... Here's what you need to know!

Both seminars will take place in Ring 4. You do not need to register for the seminars, simply turn up five minutes before the times below to take your seat. We look forward to seeing you again on Friday 28th October! 

 

11.30am – 12.15pm | The Future of Farming in Northern England  

Chair: Tim Sedgewick (Director & Chartered Surveyor, H&H Land & Estates) 

Speakers:  

• John Powell (Head of Agricultural Team, DEFRA)
• Dr Julia Aglionby (Professor in Practice at the Centre of National Parks and Protected Areas and Consultant with H&H Land & Estates)
• Dr Neil Hudson (MP for Penrith & The Border) 
• David Hall (Regional Director, NFU)

This informative seminar will address the challenges farmers are facing within the agricultural sector, provide updates on the agricultural transition plan now underway and provide an opportunity for all attendees to get involved with a question-and-answer session to key speakers from top ministerial departments. 

Following recent media speculation about the future of farming policy in England and the development of the new Environmental Land Management schemes, you may have some questions of your own that you would like to put forward to our panel.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to do so - the panel features key individuals and advocates for the rural farming communities of the North of England, who certainly won't be adverse to asking those difficult questions!

 

12.30pm – 1.15pm | A Live Debate: Issues Faced by Younger Generation in Agriculture 

Chairs: Sue Howorth & Dave Clarkson (Co-Directors of the Family Business Community)  

Speakers: 

• Georgia Hunter (Dairy Goat Farmer, Ravenstonedale) 

• Emma Blamire (Solicitor in Agricultural Team, Cartmell Shepherd) 

• Ross Murray (Area Manager, Agri-King)

This second seminar will be a ‘live debate’ exploring the common themes and challenges faced by our next generation within the agricultural industry today.

The panel features individuals from the Farmstock Futures programme, which was developed by the H&H Group to give the next generation a voice and platform to network and gain industry knowledge from several sectors of the agricultural industry, not just farming.

This lively debate will be a great opportunity to bring together young people who are all paving a career for themselves within the industry, whatever the sector. With so much uncertainty, it will be interesting to hear the panellist’s views on the challenges the next generation face and how we can pull together to tackle these. It will be followed by a Q&A session for audience participation.
